Am I a wife (and mom) in the fast lane? Well, if this is the slow lane, we’re looking at a hell of a highway.
The job I am paid for is that of an executive secretary, which doesn’t require the education degree I earned. But working with elementary and middle school students was perfect training for dealing with VP’s and corporate officers. It’s amazing how the workload grows as I advance in the organization in inverse proportion to the number of hours I am allowed to do my work instead of attend meetings or taking on some else’s overflow.
The jobs I don’t get paid for are even more fast paced. My life resume should include my scheduling, transportation, medical and conflict mediation skills. And somehow, I still manage to violate the laws of time and space by cooking dinner, sorting laundry, signing permission slips, running baths, taking phone messages about Hubby’s band performances, and kissing away the boo-boos all before I sit down to a glass of wine, the TV remote and my latest knitting project.
I can’t afford to fall apart- there are too many people leaning on me! But any other life would probably leave me bored.
